Donate or recycle laptops & computers in Melbourne
An old computer is rarely worth as little as it feels. Rather than send a working — or fixable — machine to landfill, donate it: we refurbish what we can and rehome it, recycle the rest responsibly, and wipe your data securely before anything leaves. Good for someone who needs a computer, and good for the planet.
- ~500,000tof e-waste Australia produces every year
- ~50%of it is actually recycled — the rest is landfill
- Oct 2025Windows 10 support ended, putting millions of working PCs at risk of the bin
What we accept
Working or repairable, most consumer technology can be donated. If in doubt, ask.
- Laptops of any brand — Acer, Apple, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, Microsoft, MSI, Razer, Samsung, Toshiba and more
- Desktops and all-in-ones — selected models — email us and we will let you know
- Tablets and iPads — in working or repairable condition
- Accessories — chargers, adapters and the power leads that go with a machine
What happens to your device
Every donation is triaged for the best outcome — reuse first, recycling second, landfill never.
- Refurbished and rehomed — a machine with life left is cleaned up, set up and passed on to someone who needs one
- Responsibly recycled — anything beyond saving goes to proper e-waste recycling, not to landfill
- Nothing wasted — even a machine that will not run again has parts worth reclaiming
Your data is wiped securely
This is the part people worry about, so it comes first for us. Before a donated machine is passed to anyone, the drive is securely erased — and where a device is recycled rather than reused, the drive is destroyed. Your files, accounts and photos never travel with it. Prefer to clear it yourself first? That is completely fine.
How to donate
It starts with an email so we can check the device is worth rehoming. Send the following to hello@ecsupport.com.au:
- Brand — e.g. Dell, Lenovo, Apple
- Model — e.g. Inspiron 7470, Surface Pro 4, MacBook Air
- Serial or Service Tag — the code on the underside, e.g. A233DF3
- Rough age — roughly how old the device is
- Power adapter — whether you still have the charger
- A photo or two — the machine and its screen, so we can gauge condition
We will reply with whether it can be refurbished or is better recycled, and arrange drop-off at our Mitcham workshop or, where we can, a collection across Melbourne's east.
Donation & recycling questions
Do you accept old or broken devices?
Often, yes. A machine that no longer suits you may be perfect for someone else after a refurbish, and even one that will not run again has parts and materials worth reclaiming rather than binning. Send us a photo and the details and we will tell you honestly whether it can be rehomed or is better recycled.
Is my data safe if I donate a device?
Yes. Before any donated machine is passed on, we securely wipe the drive — or destroy it where a device is being recycled rather than reused — so none of your files, accounts or photos go with it. If you would rather clear it yourself first, that is completely fine too.
Do I get anything for donating?
This is not a paid buyback — it is about keeping working technology out of landfill and getting it to people who need it. What you get is a device kept out of the bin, your data handled safely, and the hassle of disposal taken off your hands.
Where do I take it, or can you collect it?
Drop-off is at our Mitcham workshop by appointment. Depending on where you are in Melbourne's east and what you are donating, we can sometimes arrange collection — mention it when you email and we will sort it out.
