MacBook Screen Replacement Melbourne

A cracked or failed MacBook screen is not a reason to replace the whole machine. We replace displays across the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro range — including the 14-inch and 16-inch Retina XDR models — collecting from across Melbourne's east and returning the machine tested.

What a MacBook screen replacement actually involves

This is worth understanding before you ring anyone, because it explains the cost. On almost every modern MacBook the display is not a sheet of glass sitting in front of a panel — it is a bonded display assembly, with the panel, glass, antennas, camera and hinges built as one unit. There is no practical way to replace "just the cracked glass" on these machines the way you might on a phone. That is why a MacBook screen is a substantial part rather than a cheap one, and why anyone quoting a suspiciously low price is usually quoting for something else.

Which models we cover

We work across the current and recent MacBook range. Panels differ enormously between models, which is why the first thing we will ask for is your exact model — the identifier on the underside, or the model year from About This Mac.

  • MacBook Air — 13-inch and 15-inch, Apple silicon and the later Intel Retina models
  • MacBook Pro 13-inch — Retina, Touch Bar and Apple silicon generations
  • MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch — including Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED displays
  • Older Retina MacBook Pro — assessed on condition — sometimes worth it, sometimes not, and we will say which

Is it the screen, or something else?

Not every display fault is a broken display, and replacing the wrong part is an expensive mistake. A few signs worth checking before you assume the worst. If the image is intact but the backlight is dark, that can be a backlight or cable fault rather than a shattered panel. If you see distorted graphics, artefacts or coloured patterns that also appear on an external monitor, the problem is the graphics side rather than the screen. If the machine boots to an external display perfectly but shows nothing on its own, that narrows it further. We check this before quoting, because telling you it is the cheaper fault is part of the job.

How we handle it

We collect from across Melbourne's eastern suburbs, do the work on the bench at Mitcham, and return the machine to you. Screen work belongs on a bench with the right tools, not on a kitchen table, so this is how we prefer to run it regardless of distance.

MacBook models we cover

We replace screens (the LCD/Retina panel) and batteries across the full MacBook range, Intel and Apple Silicon. Find your model number — it starts with an "A", like A2337 — on the underside of the machine or under › About This Mac, and check it against the list below. Not sure which you have? Read it to us on the phone and we will tell you straight away whether we cover it.

Questions we get asked

How much does MacBook screen replacement cost in Melbourne?

It depends heavily on the model — panels vary enormously between a MacBook Air and a 16-inch Retina XDR MacBook Pro. We do not publish a flat price because that would be misleading. Ring with your model number and we will give you a firm figure over the phone before you commit to anything. The diagnosis call is free.

Can you replace just the glass instead of the whole screen?

On almost all modern MacBooks, no. The display is a bonded assembly — panel, glass, camera, antennas and hinges built as one unit — so "just the glass" is not a separate part. Anyone offering that on a recent MacBook is likely describing a different repair.

My MacBook screen is black but I can hear it running. Is the screen broken?

Not necessarily. That pattern can be a backlight fault, a display cable, or a graphics problem rather than a broken panel. Plug it into an external monitor: if the external display works normally, that tells us a great deal and often points at a cheaper repair. We check this before quoting.

How long will I be without my MacBook?

Often we can collect, replace and return within a day or two once the correct panel is on hand. Timing depends on the model, since some displays are stocked and others are ordered in. We will tell you realistically when we know your model.

Do you use genuine Apple screens?

We will tell you exactly what we are fitting and what warranty it carries before you agree to the work. Part availability differs by model and age, and there are legitimate choices at different price points — what matters is that you know which one you are getting rather than finding out afterwards.

Do you come to me, or do I need to drop it off?

We collect from across Melbourne's eastern suburbs and return the machine when it is done. Drop-off at our Mitcham workshop is available by appointment. Screen work is done on the bench either way.
