What we repair

Most Apple work falls into a handful of categories, and each has a different answer to the question of whether it is worth fixing. We will tell you which one you are looking at before any work starts.

  • Screen replacement — cracked glass, dead pixels, backlight failure, display assembly damage across the MacBook range
  • Battery replacement — swelling, rapid drain, a machine that will not run unplugged, or a "Service Battery" warning
  • Storage and memory — drives that are full, failing, or too slow for what the machine is being asked to do
  • Startup and boot faults — a Mac that will not power on, stalls at the logo, or restarts in a loop
  • Setup, migration and data recovery — moving to a new Mac, or getting files off one that will not start

Why an independent repairer rather than replacing the machine

Apple hardware lasts. A five-year-old MacBook Pro with a failed battery or a cracked screen is very often a sound computer with one broken part, and replacing that part costs a fraction of replacing the machine. The judgement call is whether the rest of it is healthy — and that is exactly the conversation we would rather have with you upfront than after you have paid for a diagnosis. If a machine is genuinely at the end of its life, we will say so.

How it works

We collect from across Melbourne's eastern suburbs, do the work on the bench at Mitcham, and return the machine to you. Screen work belongs on a bench with the right tools, not on a kitchen table, so this is how we prefer to run it regardless of distance.

  • Call and describe the fault — phone diagnosis is free, any hour, and some problems are solved in that call
  • We tell you what is involved — what the repair requires and whether it is worth doing, before you commit
  • Collection or onsite — we come to you, or you drop off at Mitcham by appointment
  • Bench work and return — tested properly, returned with a 30-day warranty on our workmanship

MacBook models we cover

We replace screens (the LCD/Retina panel) and batteries across the full MacBook range, Intel and Apple Silicon. Find your model number — it starts with an "A", like A2337 — on the underside of the machine or under › About This Mac, and check it against the list below. Not sure which you have? Read it to us on the phone and we will tell you straight away whether we cover it.

Questions we get asked

Do you repair the newest MacBook Pro models?

Yes, including the 14-inch and 16-inch models with Liquid Retina XDR displays. Those panels are more involved and more expensive than earlier Retina displays, so we will explain what is involved before starting.

Will a repair void my Apple warranty?

If your Mac is still inside its Apple warranty or AppleCare, take it to Apple first — we will tell you that rather than take the job. Independent repair makes sense once the machine is out of warranty, which is when most of this work happens.

How long does a Mac repair take?

Diagnosis is usually same-day. Repairs that need a part depend on the model, since some panels and batteries are stocked and others are ordered. We will give you a realistic timeframe when we know what the machine needs, rather than an optimistic one.

Do you come to me, or do I bring the Mac in?

Both are available. We do onsite visits across the eastern suburbs, collection and return for bench work, and drop-off at our Mitcham workshop by appointment. For screen and battery work, collection is usually the better option.
