The x360 convertibles are the ones to understand

HP's biggest sellers include the x360 range — Spectre x360, Envy x360, Pavilion x360 — which fold flat into a tablet. On these, the touch glass, digitiser and panel are usually bonded together as one unit, much like a MacBook, so "just the glass" is not a separate part and the repair is dearer than a standard HP screen. A non-touch Pavilion or ProBook, by contrast, uses a plain replaceable panel and is one of the cheaper screen jobs there is. Telling us whether yours is a touch convertible is the first thing that shapes the quote.

Find your HP product number

HP identifies machines by a product number (and serial), not just the marketing name — and there are many variants of, say, a "Pavilion 15" with different screens. You will find both on a label on the underside, and you can bring them up by pressing Fn + Esc in Windows, which opens HP System Information. Read us the product number and we will match the exact panel.

HP ranges and what their screens involve

Where your HP sits in the range tells us the panel and the likely cost.

  • Spectre — the premium convertible line — bonded OLED and 4K touch panels; the most involved HP screen repair
  • Envy — upper-mid range, often touch and sometimes OLED, in clamshell and x360 forms
  • Pavilion — the mainstream consumer line — mostly FHD, non-touch versions are very economical
  • EliteBook & ProBook — business machines, generally FHD or touch, built to be serviced
  • Omen & Victus — gaming laptops with 144Hz+ high-refresh panels that must be matched exactly

Faults we see most on HP laptops

Certain problems recur across HP's range, and the symptom usually points at the part.

  • Cracked x360 touch glass — the fold-flat convertibles take knocks in tablet mode; the bonded panel is replaced as a unit
  • Backlight failure — a faint image visible under a torch, common on older Pavilions — panel or backlight cable
  • Bright or dark blotches — pressure damage to the panel from something closed in the lid
  • Loose hinge cracking the bezel — a stiffening hinge that, left alone, eventually strains the display cable

Questions we get asked

How much does an HP screen replacement cost?

It depends heavily on the model. A non-touch Pavilion or ProBook FHD panel is among the most affordable screen repairs we do; a Spectre or Envy x360 with bonded OLED touch glass is considerably more, because the glass, digitiser and panel come as one part. Give us the product number and we will price it exactly over the phone, free.

Where do I find my HP product number?

On the label on the underside of the laptop, alongside the serial number. In Windows you can also press Fn + Esc to open HP System Information, which lists it. It lets us match the correct panel out of HP's many variants.

Can you replace an HP x360 touchscreen?

Yes. On the Spectre, Envy and Pavilion x360 the touch glass and panel are bonded together, so we replace the assembly as a unit. It is a dearer part than a standard panel — we will confirm the exact one from your product number before quoting.

Is my HP screen worth fixing?

On most HP laptops, yes — the screen is a standalone part and the rest of the machine keeps working. It is worth reconsidering only on an old, slow Pavilion that has other issues as well, and we will tell you honestly if that is where yours is at.

My HP screen has gone dark but it is still on. What is that?

Often a backlight or cable fault rather than a shattered panel. Shine a torch at the screen at an angle — if you can faintly make out the desktop, the image is fine and the backlight has failed, which can be a cheaper repair. We confirm it before quoting.
